Since its creation in 2020, Octetology has won the first prize of the international competition of Castelfidardo in Italy, in the category “Piazzolla Awards”; and counts on beautiful programs (Châtelet Theater, FIP live Studio concert at Radio France 104, Nacres Nights, Musical Nights of Uzès, Tango Festival of Gennevilliers, Generations France Live music, …). Dedicated to the flamboyant and emblematic Octeto Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla, these eight musicians trace the origins of Tango Nuevo to deliver a resolutely modern interpretation. When he left Paris to return to settle in Buenos Aires in 1955, Astor Piazzolla was determined to “get tango out of the monotony in which it had become mired”, by upsetting its codes and traditions by creating new music. He surrounds himself with some of the most emblematic musicians of the genre (A. Stampone, L. Federico, E. Francini …) to create the “Octeto Buenos Aires”, an ephemeral formation (1955-1958) which will profoundly mark the music of Buenos Aires and which will remain as one of the most avant-garde attempts of the composer. Despite the originality of the proposal, the virtuosity of the performers and the flamboyant writing, the project does not receive the echo hoped for among the public and connoisseurs, which will lead Piazzolla to abandon it and destroy the entirety of the parts of this immense repertoire.
Through an important work of research and rewriting, Octetology manages to reconstitute this lost repertoire, never recreated since its disappearance more than 60 years ago
