The release show of “Cantando a Pedra” will be captured live by a professional crew. As Outro Gato’s goal is to produce audio and video material, the band has launched a collective funding campaign to cover the costs of production and dissemination. To encourage contributions, the band offers rewards such as pocket shows and serenades, as well as tickets for the show itself.
Despite not being widespread in Brazil, gypsy jazz (or jazz manouche, as it is also known) – has a striking style, high spirits and full of artistic virtuosity. The show, in turn, is a musical journey similar to gypsy cultures: without homeland, prejudices or barriers.
Formed by Matheus Félix (Violin), Marcelo Luiz Barbosa (Acoustic Bass), Mauro Dell’Isola (Guitar and Acoustic Guitar) and João Gabriel (Voice and Guitar), the band Outro Gato presents the release show of the album “Singing the Stone”, which marks the first phonographic record of authorial musical style Gypsy Jazz in Minas Gerais. The event happens on August 11 (Thursday), at 20h, within the project Jazz e Mais, at Casa Outono, in Belo Horizonte/MG. Tickets cost R$ 40,00.
Although it’s not very widespread in Brazil, Jazz Gypsy – or Jazz Manouche as it’s also known – is a style of jazz created by Django Reinhardt, who in the 1930s was the first jazzman to influence North American musicians, following a reverse path to the jazz from New Orleans. A striking style, high spirited and full of artistic virtuosity. Pilgrimage by the style for 5 years, “Singing the Stone” is the result of an immersion of 1060 hours in the process of composition and about 80 hours of studio production, made possible by the Aldir Blanc Law of 2020.
The show, in turn, is a musical journey similar to the gypsy cultures: without homeland, prejudices and barriers. Research, experimentation and creation are the band’s trademarks, which is evident in the 8 own compositions present on the record. Besides these tracks, the repertoire, which allies contemporary and inventive arrangements, is composed by rereadings of MPB songs, such as “Só sei dançar com você”, by Tulipa Ruiz, “Nuvem Cigana”, by Lô Borges and Ronaldo Bastos, and “Savassi”, by Geovane Paiva and Rodolfo Padilla (in memorian), Matheus Félix’s teacher.
